Passons Boulevard Undercrossing Completed; Video Available!
February 28, 2013

Pico Rivera, California – The Passons Boulevard Underpass is one of six grade separation projects stemming from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Triple Track project, which will ultimately add a third main track between the cities of Fullerton and Commerce. The primary construction involved building an underpass structure to route north-south vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Passons Boulevard under the current BNSF railway, which allowed the City to remove two existing at-grade crossings.  The underpass now allows thru traffic to traverse under the railway, linking the southern portions of the community to the central and northern parts of the city, while improving safety conditions and reducing noise pollution from the trains.

Harris provided full project and construction management services, including securing funding, design oversight,  and community outreach. Due to the high-profile nature of the project, and its effects on citizens and their daily commutes, a large part of Harris’ role involved continual communication with both stakeholders and residents. Harris worked with the City to make sure Pico Rivera residents had proper information regarding traffic patterns and detours. Harris held meetings to help residents understand more about the project and allow them to voice opinions and concerns.
