Harris Joins Project Partners at the Grand Opening of the Jenny Strand Solar Research and Development Park
January 27, 2013
Santa Clara, California – Harris & Associates attended the grand opening of the Jenny Strand Solar Research and Development Park in Santa Clara, Calif., along with attendees from Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City of Santa Clara, MiaSolé, and community residents.
The new complex will generate 100 kilowatts, which is enough to power 26 homes, while preventing up to 72 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the air annually. Harris provided both civil design and construction management services for SVP, the Santa Clara city-owned nonprofit utility.
“Harris is honored to have contributed to such an exciting project that is helping develop research around solar energy capabilities,” said Russ Moore, manager of civil design services for Harris’ Northern Region.
MiaSolé, a private technology company, donated the thin-film photovoltaic solar panels needed for the project in exchange for product testing of their panels. This helped the City with funding the project and Harris was able to help secure the project site and begin construction.
This project is an important first step in green energy research as SVP continues to expand its offerings to the surrounding business community of Santa Clara, already a well-known data center for companies such as Yahoo and Intel.
